Infancy & Early Childhood

The family journey through life begins with the birth of a child....a time of great expectations. If a child is born with a developmental disability, the family's expectations may be challenged by many questions and concerns.
ARC/Advocacy & Resource Center understands the unique feelings of these families and assists them by providing:

· Information on specific disabilities

· Linkages to community resources

· Assistance in locating financial supports

· Access to other parents "who have been there"

· Family  support services

Childhood

As the child matures, the family may encounter obstacles as they journey along new and unexplored paths. The ARC/Advocacy & Resource Center is there to provide supports to the family which include:

· Parent Assistance Respite Training

· Educational advocacy services

· Workshop & training opportunities

· Resource lending library

· Computerized information & referral services

Adulthood

As the family journeys with their loved one through the phases of adulthood, issues of independence and self-sufficiency emerge. ARC/Advocacy & Resource Center offers supports to both the individual and the family which include:

· Assistance in forming meaningful friendships

· Self-advocacy & self-awareness activities

· Rights & benefits assistance

· Community Education

Twilight Years

As parents & individuals with developmental disabilities age, their walk down life's path may be rocky and uncertain at times. ARC/Advocacy & Resource Center understands the special concerns of these families and offers:

· Peer support

· Assistance in long-term financial planning

· Housing search & assistance services

· Life planning services

· Linkages to community services & opportunities

· Forums in which to share experiences

· Advocacy services
