In 1980 ARC began training motivated individuals with disabilities to live in their own apartments. Adaptive materials were developed by a special education teacher with the input of the apartment trainees. These materials assisted each person to have a successful independent living experience. ARC published the materials and began marketing them in response to the great demand demonstrated by people in other programs in Michigan and around the country.
